The Criminal Appeals committee will focus on concerns about the ability and willingness of our justice system to correct wrongful convictions.
It builds on the success of the 2021 report of the Westminster Commission on Miscarriages of Justice which highlighted problems with the miscarriage watchdog body, the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
The government adopted the Westminster Commission’s key recommendation to review the criminal appeals system.
